How do you celebrate and honor Martin Luther King Day with your students?

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a champion of equality and justice. Teaching young students about his life introduces them to the concepts of fairness, equity, and the fight against discrimination.

MLK Jr.'s life story is a testament to resilience, empathy, and compassion. By learning about his struggles and triumphs, students can develop a sense of understanding and empathy towards others.

My two favorite books to read with my second graders are Martin’s Big Words, and Happy Birthday, Martin Luther King. After reading these stories my class, we always have a class discussion about the concept of social responsibility and how they can contribute to helping make our school, community, and world a better place.

It's so important for us to share with our students the life of a true hero who inspired so much positive change for racial justice and equality. I'd like to share this FREEBIE I created to go along with any MLK book.
